Full Moon Rising

How does the full moon effect you?

I am always excited about a full moon.  The effervescent milky white moon dangling magically in the sky.  It is almost hypnotizing.

As a child I asked my mother how the moon became so shiny and bright.  She told me there was a lot of moon dust blowing around up there and there was a man on the moon whose job it was to use his broom and sweep the moon clean of all that dust.  I listened intently as she described how he would start at one side and begin sweeping, making his way to the other side until it was clean and glowing brightly.  I was hooked!

I am still hooked to this day.  The waxing and waning of the moon is just one of the many cycles of nature along with the rising and setting of the sun, the tides of the ocean, the seasons and of course the human heartbeat.   The vast complexity of nature is truly awesome.  I am consistently humbled by its grace.

Typically on the days running up to a full moon my sleep patterns change a bit.  If I have had a few nights of feeling wide awake at bed time or waking up in the middle of the night with lots of energy, I pop my head outside to see what the moon is up to.  Sure enough she is there, glowing and bright, on her way to being fully ripe.  I am inspired to think that she and I are on the same page.

The full moon is my most creative time.  I take this opportunity to sit still.  To let my own dust settle.  Then, like the man on the moon, I clean and clear away the dust until I am glowing as brightly as the full moon.  I sweep away old ideas, behaviours, stories, clutter and noise.  This creates space for me to see more clearly.  With clarity comes creativity.  Now I can step forward.

If you have a full moon story to share, we would love to hear about it.  Please post your story below.

I love the full moon too! I have done group meditations with the full moon and drumming. What a great experience! Very powerful feeling when the moon is full. Full moon is also the time for me to put our crystals out to be charged. Even my sons put theirs out under the full moon for two days. They work a lot better after. I can’t wait for the next full moon, I’ve been checking out the moon every night to see where it is.
